To ensure a good bond throughout a glued seam, it is often difficult to avoid some excess glue creating a ridge as in this photo...


These unwanted ridges of epoxy resin can be sanded down, but the resin is much more resistant to sanding than the soft plaster of the statue, so you often get uneven results across the join. A way around this problem is to channel-out the epoxy resin at the join surface, and then fill this channel with a plaster filler. This filler will have similar physical properties to the plaster statue so sanding and shaping across the join will be consistent.
